About the Gardiner Foundation

The Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation was established in 1987 to support the study of the history of Long Island, including its culture, art and tradition. The foundation encourages and sponsors the creation and perpetuation by historical societies of collections and repositories of documents and artifacts that represent local heritage and traditions, and encourages the preservation, restoration and exhibition of historical buildings, homes and facilities in the area. Inspired by Robert David Lion Gardiner’s passion for New York history, the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation is dedicated to the study of the history of Long Island, N.Y., with an emphasis on Suffolk Countyy.
