Building an Ultra Lite Dinghy

As a new venture for CRMC this semester, we will begin construction of an 8ft Westport Dinghy of geodesic Airolite design. This construction technique utilizes Kevlar webbing and heat-shrink Dacron fabric over ash frames and spruce stringers to produce a boat weighing only 29 pounds! These dinghies are the perfect tender for a larger craft, easy to haul and stow aboard. We have enough material for three of these beauties. The first is promised to the generous donor of the materials and building ‘jig’. The other two are ‘up for grabs’ so consider participating and going home with one of these fine craft.
