Building the Mill Creek 13' Kayak
A Course for Eighth and Ninth Graders
with an Adult Partner

Instructors: Gene Westhoff and others.
Meetings: 12 Saturdays: Dec. 1,8,15; Jan. 5,12,19,26; Feb. 2,19; Mar. 1,8,15
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Tuition: (for a 1 child and 1 adult) $100.*
Limit of 10 boats (20 participants)
*This course is supported by grants from the Babcock and Knapp - Swezey Foundations. Each student must have an adult partner and both must agree to attend the entire course of 12 Saturdays.

Team members will begin by laying out the parts for their boats and scarfing plywood strips together to make the planks for the hull. The following weeks will find you stitching the planks together with copper wire and then gluing up the boat with epoxy resin. The remaining Saturdays will be spent installing interior parts, coating the boat with glass cloth and finishing the boat in preparation to taking it home. Finished Mill Creek 13' kayaks are not only beautiful and great fun to paddle and explore in. They are worth about $1000 each So, getting a boat like this for your very own is not only a bargain, you will also have the pride in saying, "I built it myself with (insert the name of your favorite adult helper)!" .
